It’s been really nice this week in the bar restaurant with lots of customers bringing in cards and small presents. It really does make you feel appreciated when your regular bar and restaurant customers remember you at Christmas with a card or even a little gift.

This morning we opened the bar restaurant a bit latter than usual, we decided to go to see our state doctor with regard to getting my degree of disablement re-evaluated. It’s a long old process but at least we have made a start. We have been given an appointment to see the “Traumatologist” soon and I guess that he or she will send us to Malaga for the next stage of the assessment process.

When we’d finished with the doctor, we had a really nice breakfast in Cancelada in bar restaurant “El Caballo”. This is a bar we would wholeheartedly recommend. It’s really authentic Spanish fare.

The Yorkie puppies:

They are booked in with our favourite vet in the Diana Commercial Centre, Lucia to have their first inoculation this Wednesday at 5pm. After that they will be free to go to their new owners, so we are working hard at keeping them away from the mother’s milk (Sami), socialize them and last but not least, get them to enjoy eating solid food.

Here’s a message for Peter and Ann, who are shortly to become the new handlers of the little boy of the litter Jago: He is now eating soaked dried food without the baby milk mixed in, so no need to bring the Tupperware container to the bar restaurant tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you, but we will really miss Jago, he’s a real darling.

English Bar Restaurant in Spain Offers Polverones and Liquers for Free to all Clients at Xmas.

Today in our bar restaurant we have put out the traditional Spanish greeting for our clients. This consists of a selection of liqueurs, Anis, Peach etc from which each customer entering the bar may take a small glass of one of the liqueurs, which are set out on a tray on the bar. This shot of liqueur is traditionally offered by the bar restaurant as a free gift, along with a sort of cake that crumbles to dust as you eat it. The cake is called a “ Polveron” and the word actually means “dusty one.” (Mexican Sugar Cookies)

From the bar restauarant’s point of view this is just a small token of appreciation for the customers loyalty to our bar over the past year, but it is very much appreciated and you’ll probably be slated if yopu don’t make the effort to lay on the “Chupitos” (Shots) and “Polverones.”

After that they will be free to go to their new owners, so we are working hard at keeping them away from the mother’s milk (Sami), socialize them and last but not least, get them to enjoy eating solid food. For those who are interested the solid food is: Royal Canine Starter, which has been soaked in water and baby’s milk and then mashed. You do have to feed each puppy by hand to get it used to the taste and texture of solid food.

Should A Bar Restauarant Owner Stay Open or Close-Up over the Xmas Period?

If you take on a bar restaurant you wall have been working hard all year and made a nice profit by the time Xmas arrives. The question that raises itself with all bar restaurant, take away owners is: Should I hammer the Xmas trade or should I close for 10 days or so and enjoy a blooming good Xmas with my family, away from my bar restaurant take away?

There’s no easy answer to this question, but a lot of really successful bar restaurants do in fact close for Xmas. We close our bar restaurant because we feel that we need a good break after a year of raking in the cash and the hard work that that entails and we also feel that our regular bar customers want themselves to move more up-market over the festive season.

Everything considered, I would advise that in the first year or two you operate your bar restaurant 12 month a year, but by the time you reach year three you ease off just a little and take a well earned holiday weather back in the UK or perhaps as we have done several times; lock up your bar restaurant and go to the wonderful Caribbean for a complete change.

Met a Guy at my Bar Restaurant who has had a Fantastic Electronic Device Implanted in his Epidural Canal!

Dear Reader,

Olivia is in the bar restaurant working and as it’s such a lovely sunny December day she’s expecting to have a lot of trade both in the restaurant and also at the bar. I on the other hand have been talking to a customer at the bar who has had a marvellous result from his third back operation, following two previous failed surgical procedures. His fist two ops just ended up leaving him in pain an unable to work (All three ops were conducted in Eng.).

His third operation was an experimental one. They implanted a machine about the size of a stopwatch and that sends signals straight to his epidural canal. He is able to turn the signal generator on and off via a remote control device and he says that when the machine is switched on the debilitating pain he suffered before turned into a very tolerable pins and needles effect. Five years ago he was able to work and in the evening go out to bars clubs and restaurants and since then he has had two operations and he has spent many years lying on his back in pain, but now after the implant, he can lead a nearly normal life; working visiting shows and going to bars and restaurants with his friends and family.

was really lucky to meet him in my bar today and after his inspirational chat, I went to see the wonderful Dr.Victorial who is also in the Diana Commercial Centre (She is very much loved and cherished by her patents and I cannot recommend her enough to you.) and she out of the goodness of her heart is going to contact the specialist that I saw six months ago in Malaga (Sr. Arrainz) and ask him to talk to another neurosurgeon (Sr.Aldalla) to ask him if he would consider doing this Electro Stimulus Surgery on me.

When you have a bar restaurant you meet just about all types of people and most of them are really nice and give something to you.

Bar Restaurant Take Away, Mar y Mar, San Pedro, Marbella.

Dear Reader

When you’ve been running a bar restaurant in Spain for a few years, you may feel as we do and prefer to spend some of your free time in totally Spanish bars and restaurants . There are good and bad Spanish bars, but if you find a good one; it’s a really nice place to chill out in and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and flavours of Andalucia.

We use several good Spanish bars and I’ll tell you about them as time goes on, but today I’d like to tell you about bar Mar y Mar, which is next to the service station in San Pedro, Marbella.

Bar Mar y Mar is a fantastic example of San Pedro culture preserved perfectly. The bar is run by an old man and 3 staff and they are a bar restaurant, which do a wide range of freshly made tapas. The décor is very rustic. There is fruit, garlic and hams hanging everywhere you look and in the centre of the bar is a long table covered in an extensive range of fresh “campo” vegetables. All the furniture is made of dark wood and the chairs have seats woven in raffia.

This bar restaurant is a fantastic place to eat a full meal or to have a drink accompanied with really tasteful tapas. There is also an outside terrace, which faces southeast, so is nice and sunny.

The staff are really friendly and I really recommend that you visit this bar restaurant, located in San Pedro, Marbella.

English Bar, Restaurant, Take-Away for Sale Fuengirola, Costa del Sol, Spain.

Dear Reader

Why did we sell everything over there and buy a bar restaurant take away in Estepona, Marbella?

Well basically I was single then and felt that at the end of each month, the tax man was taking such a large chunk of my money that it was hardly worth working. I used to go to my local bar and meet people who lived off the dole and they had more spending money than I did and I was working my B------- off.

Of course I disliked English weather and the thought of leaving a sinking ship in order to live on the Costa del Sol, where I would have 300 days of sunshine per year appealed greatly to me. I read various adverts for: English bar for sale in Marbella, Bar Restaurant take away lease for sale Estepona San Pedro and in the end I came here for a 6 week holiday having sold up every stick I owned in the UK and I eventually went to see a bar advertised as, English bar restaurant, take away for sale in Spain. The bar was located in La Cala de Mijas, Fuengirola. I wanted it as soon as I saw it and bought it cash with two other partners. We never looked back and never missed England.

Bar Restaurant . Peter and Ann come to see their puppy Jago who is now 4 weeks old.

Dear Reader,

When you own a bar restaurant your private life becomes public to a certain degree. For example right now, everyone in our bar wants to know how Sami’s puppies are progressing and if any have been sold and if so, to whom? Well today they won’t be disappointed, as we had a visit last night from Peter and Ann, the charming retired couple who have bought Jago.

Peter and Ann, with Jago and his mum, Sami, who is 2years 6 months.

They came to see him (the first time) by referral from Lucia (Our local vet in the Diana Commercial Centre, Estepona.) when he was just one week and fell in love with him immediately. I ask them if they wished to give him a kennel name, for my records or if they wished me to name him. They had the name Jago already in mind, so at just one week old he had his name.

Jago! A real star.

Today I’ll be able to tell everybody in the bar restaurant that, Peter and Ann saw Jago for the second time last night and they were really happy to see how much he had grown and that he was running around and just starting on a little solid food, as a supplement to his mother’s milk. After they’d been to the apt to see Jago, they popped into the bar restaurant to have a pizza and a chat about Jago and all the wonderful progress he has made with Olivia.

What I always say to my bar customers is; I don’t care how much someone is prepared to pay for one of Sami’s puppies, as the money is not the first consideration. A lot of people who know me in the bar restaurant think that I’m crazy and should sell them to the highest bidder, but the most important thing to me and Olivia, is that the puppies are placed in loving homes. There’s absolutely no problem with Jago, as Peter and Ann are really lovely people who will look after his every need, so we are really happy about that.

We only have one other puppy to place; she’s a little girl, her kennel name is Heart “Corazon” and our vet Lucia, plus all the regulars in the bar restaurant, will be looking for the right sort of people to offer her a really good home somewhere on the Costa del Sol.

Englisg Bar Resaurant Take Away For Sale/ Rent, Costa del Sol, Spain

Dear Reader,

Eli is in hospital as a result of the chronic nosebleeds she has been suffering for quite a while now. She is going to have some sort of surgical reinforcement or replacement of the weak blood vessels and hopefully that will cure her problem. We are already missing her at our bar restaurant in San Pedro along with all the regular bar customers who adore her, as she is such a conscientious worker and loves especially to get the bar restaurant prepared to open each morning before Olivia arrives.

Olivia of course loves this aspect of Eli’s performance, as she gets a chance to enjoy a coffee with me, sitting in the sunshine at a nice bar in the Marbella area before she starts work herself. Well to be fair, she stats work at around 9 am, doing shopping in Estepona or Marbella, for the bar along with banking ad other regular tasks.

The replacement girl we have is Chilean. Her name is Carla and she has previous experience of working in our bar restaurant. Carla is a pleasant girl to work with. She speaks some English, but she’ll have forgotten an awful lot about running the restaurant and Olivia will have a tough first week of it.

If you are thinking of taking on a small bar restaurant yourself; I would advise you to have two waiters/waitresses working part time and not one full time, this gives you a lot more flexibility when one of them becomes ill, as you can offer more hours to the other one.

I have included a picture of the puppies eating Royal Canine food (Soaked in water for several hours.) This is in response to numerous email I have received asking for regular shots of the puppies as they develop.

This morning over breakfast Olivia and I talked about putting he bar restaurant lease up for sale at a affordable price, at the beginning of the new year. We also talked about advertising the business as , English Bar Restaurant for sale in San Pedro, Marbella, Costa del Sol, but Olivia wanted to know what we would do with the money from the sale of the “bar for sale in Spain.” I suggested that we could buy a tired apt in Malaga and do it up for resale, but Olivia definitely wasn’t ready for that idea and I came dangerously close to having a cup of coffee poured over my head. So anyway soon we will be advertising either:

English Bar Restaurant Take Away to rent/ lease in Spain (Costa del Sol).

or

English Bar Restaurant Take Away for sale in Spain (Costa del Sol).

If we rent or lease the bar, we will have to find either, people who will carry on what we do or people who have catering experience and have a good idea of their own for the business, but of course if we advertise: English bar for sale in Spain and then sell the bar freehold, the there’s no need to be so fussy about who we sell to.

Oriana, my Niece Leaves Costa del Sol to Return to her family in Chile.

Dear Reader,

I hope that you enjoyed your weekend! We certainly did, but not by doing the normal relaxing things, like visiting places of natural interest /architectural beauty or meeting up with good friends at a bar or restaurant, to enjoy some good Spanish food and drink. Instead we all mucked in to clear away tools and dust, from the bar restaurant and the flat. Claudio has finished the improvements and he left for Chile yesterday. We paid him for the wonderful work that he has done and he was really happy, as the euros he earned from us have about treble the value in Chile. When his daughter Oriana (my niece) came to say goodbye to me at the bar restaurant on Saturday, she broke down in tears and I have to admit the thought of her going back to live on the other side of the globe brought tears to my eyes as well.

Oriana is a young person who attracts “trouble” but you can’t help loving her, as she has a very beautiful side to her personality too. Apart from Oriana working for us in our bar restaurant and also helping Olivia out in the restaurant, sometimes with zero notice, when she had to many customers to be able to cope; she would often come to visit me when she new that I was having a bad time with my back and couldn't come down to the bar myself and also whenever she passed the bar restaurant on her way to or from her own job, she’d always ask Olivia if she needed anything for the bar from the local supermarket.

So Claudio has left some beautiful work (done to our apt.) behind him here on the Costa del Sol and each time we look at the new rustic kitchen floor etc we’ll think of him in Chile and we’ll definitely miss Oriana in many ways and think very kindly of her.

Oriana has done a lot of bar restaurant work here in Spain, but we really hope that she will take a course in Chile and go to work in one of the many areas she loves, like working with plants and animals or showing tourists around architectural sites. We wish her lots of luck and every body here in the bar restaurant will miss her and feel sad that she's gone.

Aimy Comes Back to Visit Us in our Bar Restaurant! Jose with Smallest Puppy.

Dear Reader,

Hi, I’m Jose aged 10 and I’ve asked Graham to write this for me, as my English is not brilliant yet!

In the picture I am holding the smallest Yorkshire pup, which now at four weeks weighs 450 grams. Her name is Angela.

Every Saturday My mum goes to Grahams bar restaurant Estepona Marbella to visit Olivia and usually I go with her.

We have a brand new medium sized van, but my Mum can’t get it out of the garage space, which is beneath a busy bar restaurant in Marbella, as there are so many concrete columns to reverse around. My Mum is going to look for a better parking space. My Mum’s name is Aimy and she worked at Graham’s bar restaurant for 15 years. She is now accepted by Graham and Olivia, as a daughter.

Hi (Graham),

2 Years ago Aimy had to leave the bar to have a hysterectomy performed in the hope of alleviate chronic abdominal pain, but after the op the pain levels continued and prevented her from resuming her job at our bar restaurant.

Olivia and Aimy are together now in the bar, whilst Jose is half learning how to operate a blog and half playing with the puppies. The puppies are fenced in in the closed in terrace, which faces south. The sun is beaming in, they have a heating pad beneath one end of their whelping box and they have plants for shade. It's a glorious December day and everyone is happy.
