Friday 2nd November
Hi,
Well so much to tell you and where to begin? So much has happened around the bar restaurant over the Halloween period and a lot of champagne and latterly cider has been guzzled.
Victor went off by bus to meet his friends in Fuengirola, Wednesday lunchtime. They met up in a bar called El Maritimo and then headed for Plaza Major, the big out of town mall just outside Malaga city. They all had champagne cocktails in one of there favourite Spanish bars, don’t ask me what that cost, as I prefer not to know myself; I feel happier that way. Then they went on to an English bar, which is advertising a lease for sale, and one of the boy’s fathers is thinking of buying the said lease. (He’s a guy who already has a carpeting business, which is flourishing, but I suppose it’s a bit low key and he wants to lease a bar in Spain to inject a bit more colour and excitement into his well-off but perhaps rather dull life. His wife told me that she is looking forward to them renting the bar, as it will give her an opportunity to dress up most nights and air some of her really lovely clothes, not to mention her Cartier 750 collection of rings, bracelets and a wonderful white gold necklace.) She also has one side of her walk-in wardrobe lined with wonderful Italian shoes, which also need to be seen. I am pleased to announce that in the English bar the youngsters who were by then joined by some young ladies, switched to a much more reasonably priced cider.
As soon as the group had knocked back a few drinks in the English bar to get themselves into a more sociable mood; they made a beeline for the cinema. No! You don’t even want to know which film they chose from among the 12 screens, but it was needless to say an action film. Yes! Full of blood and guts etc.
On the Wednesday night, as regular readers already know, we closed our bar restaurant in favour of partying with friends in a bar in Benalmadena. We stayed closed on the Thursday (yesterday) and after chilling around the apt until 4pm; we went round to visit Chas and Noa and their son Sergio, who is one of triplets. We had a great veggie curry there made by Chas who loves to cook. Olivia took some very nice Chilean wine and we had a good old natter about as many topics as we could fit in. Chas and Noa are regular customers in our bar restaurant, but you can’t really go into sensitive topics in depth in the bar, so it was really nice to be able to sit on their terrace and have an intimate exchange of views, ideas and tips about this that and the other. Years ago we’d all meet up at our bar Sunday mornings, load up two jeeps and rush of to Tarifa for the day and yesterday we resolved to resurrect that habit, now that Elena has temporarily left home to study for her “A’s” in England and l---- is out working most of the time. I was able to offer a piece of really solid advice regarding studying for A levels, for Chas and Noa to pass on to Elena i.e. A levels (The tough subjects: Maths, Bio, Phy and Chem.) are nothing like IGCSE’s. To get good A level grades at A/S and A2 level, you must be prepared to study until 10pm or even midnight four nights per week and also put in four hours min on Sat and Sun. It is also very important to fully understand; that the course gets progressively harder and harder, as one gradually labours towards the final A2 examinations. They are very valuable examinations to have on your C.V. but they are really hard work. 50% of students don’t discover this fact until it is too late to do anything about it and subsequently let the chance to get grade A’s and B’s slip through their fingers. (The reason I can talk about this topic with some degree of confidence, is that my son Victor has just sat his A/S’s in Maths, Phy and Chem.)
Sami: Our Yorkie is due to have her pups on the 7th. I am taking her temperature twice a day and at the moment it is constant at around 37.55 oC, as soon as her temperature drops we will know that the birth is imminent. What a beautiful moment we have ahead of us helping Sami to bring three or perhaps more tiny little Yorkie pups into the world. I am well read up on the subject of birthing, but still I am very, very nervous about having that responsibility on my shoulders. I really hope that I don’t let her down!
Cheers
Graham
